My recent post on how to look your best at any wedding this summer was a result of my own search to find dresses for two weddings this season. The first was last weekend when Alex’s brother got married in Houston, Texas — the bride’s hometown. The wedding was a formal one at a gorgeous, French-inspired chateau complete with the most beautiful floral arrangements and a 6-piece Mariachi band — a nod to the bride’s Mexican heritage.
After finding out the dress I had originally selected was oh-so-similar to the bridesmaids’, my trip to Rent the Runway saved the day! It was the first time I had ever used the service and I loved it. I made a trip to their Manhattan store where I could see the dresses in person and try on a sample size — mostly a size 6 — before placing my order. To try on the dresses you make an appointment which I did by just walking in and taking the next available. Next time I will make an appointment on their app to avoid the wait and browse what dresses they have in store at the moment. My one complaint is that the dress I ended up ordering was pretty large in the waist. The frustrating part about this is that the sales person who I was working with kept insisting I order two sizes bigger, which I knew would be a mistake. Overall, I am very happy with the service and will use it again!
As you can see I practice what I preach when it comes to wedding guest attire and went for a midi length dress. I think they are great for weddings as they look dressy without being overly formal. At 5’8″ I also appreciate that they leave me without my frequent dress-wearing anxiety of constantly debating if the hem is too short. The bold colors of this dress are what originally drew me to it but the lace sealed the deal. The pattern is so unique with butterflies and tropical flowers. Since the dress made such a statement I kept the rest simple with my trusty nude pumps, favorite Kate Spade earrings, and my hair in a low bun.
The wedding was beautiful and we are so glad that Alex’s brother and new wife will be just a quick train ride away from us in Boston. It was also such a great reason to get out of the city for Memorial Day weekend. I had never been to Texas before and our short time there left me wanting to plan another trip!
